　今日は令和２年度２学期終業式がありました。児童生徒代表あいさつでは，中学２年生の２人が発表をしてくれました。１人は運動会で団長として芽生えた責任感について。もう１人は，途中から本校に来て変わった自覚について話をしてくれました。最後には２人とも来年度から受験生になるということへの目標を発表してくれました。

　３学期からはまた児童生徒も増え新たな体制となります。良い年明けができるようにしっかりと準備をいていきたいと思います。

Today our school had its closing ceremony for the second semester. Representing the student body, two 8^th graders gave speeches. One talked about the sense of responsibility they developed as a captain for Sports Day. The other talked about their experience of coming to our school mid-year. Since both of our speaking students will be preparing for high school entrance exams in the next school year, they spoke about their goals to prepare for that time.

Starting next semester, the number of students at our school will be increasing. We are all preparing to start the new year off strong.

　今年度本校は，「地域花いっぱいキャンペーン」を行いました。事前にチラシを配り希望を取って，苗を直接届けに行きました。約２５０本の注文があり，みんなで協力して届けました。みんなで育てた苗を地域の方々に配ることによって花いっぱいの島になればと思います。

This year, our school held its 'Blooming Kuchinoshima' flower planting campaign. A while back we distributed fliers to take requests, and when everything was ready, made direct flower deliveries. With over 250 flowers ordered, everyone pitched in, and helped us make the deliveries. Through this campaign, we hope to cover our island with beautiful flowers.

ここ最近昼休みは，サッカーを児童生徒は楽しんでいます。ドッヂボールやバスケットなどもしたりと，昼休みはほとんど毎日体を動かしています。今年度から本校に来た先生方からは，「島だけどこんなに寒いのー。」などといった声が聞こえるほど最近は風も強く寒い日が続いています。寒い冬にも負けず口之島の子どもたちは毎日昼休みを楽しんでいます。

Recently our students have been enjoying soccer together during the afternoon recess. Sometimes you can catch them playing dodgeball and basketball as well, keeping active every day. Since the temperature has been dropping, the teachers who arrived this year have been commenting about it, "It gets this cold on such an island?!" But our students are not letting the low temperatures get the best of them, and are enjoying their afternoon recesses every day.

　先日ZOOMでオンライン授業をして頂いたレスリンググレコローマンスタイル日本代表監督松本先生から，５・６年生の子どもたちに素敵なプレゼントが届きました。中身は，Tシャツと先生が出場したオリンピックの試合映像でした。子どもたちもとても喜んだ様子でした。試合の映像では，大きな選手相手に，大技「俵返し」をする姿をみてすごく驚いていました。この機会を通して，授業だけでなくプレゼントまで用意して頂き本当にありがとうございました。オリンピックが終わったらぜひ口之島にも来てください。お待ちしています。

The coach of the Japanese wrestling Olympic team, Mr. Matsumoto, who joined one of our classes a little bit ago over Zoom, sent our 5^th and 6^th graders a wonderful present: a T shirt for each student, and a DVD of one of his Olympic wrestling matches. Our students were very excited about it. They were surprised to see that in this Olympic match, Mr. Matsumoto was able to perform the bold 'Tawara Gaeshi' on his opponent. Through this experience, not only were our students able to talk to Mr. Matsumoto via Zoom, but they also received a great gift. We hope they could visit our island after the Olympics are over!

　今日の５・６時間目のクラブ活動の時間に小学部は，調理実習をしました。調理実習では，「パンケーキ」と「ゼリー」を作りました。パンケーキはおしゃれにタワーにして作りました。できた後は，みかんやチョコレートなどを使ってデコレーションしました。ゼリーは，島で取れたスイートスプリングをお皿代わりにして作りました。今年度初めての調理実習は，大成功でした。

Today for their fifth and sixth period club activity, the elementary school students had a cooking lesson. For today, they made pancakes and a jelly dessert. The pancakes were made into a fancy tower, and after decorated them using chocolate, and enjoyed their creation. As for the jelly, they poured the mix into cups made from sweet springs, a type of mandarin that is grown on our island, and placed them in the fridge. This was their first cooking lesson of the year, and it was a success.

　中学生は英語の授業で，聞き取りの練習をして，クリスマスの気分を楽しむためにクリスマスの伝統的な映画のホーム・アローン2を見ました。映画は英語の音声と，日本語の字幕で映りました。授業の最後に映画に出てきた最近習った英語の表現を復習しました。生徒はこのクリスマスの映画を英語の音声で楽しく，学べました。

Today for their English class, the middle school students watched the Christmas classic Home Alone 2 to practice their listening skills, and enjoy some Christmas cheer. The movie was played with English audio, and Japanese subtitles. After watching, they reviewed some of the English that they have recently learned that was used in the film. Our students seemed to have enjoyed the chance to experience this Christmas classic with the original English voices.

　今日，３時間目の体育のマット運動の時間に，口之島オリンピックを開催しました。今までの学習の中で身に付けた技をそれぞれが工夫をして，自分で演技構成を考え披露をしました。いつもの授業とは違い，色んな人たちに見られる中で行いました。小学生は１つ１つの技を美しく，中学生は「後転倒立」など難しい技をかっこよく披露してくれました。今回の単元は，極小規模校で行う小中合同体育の１つの良い形になったのではないでしょうか。

Today during P.E. class, we had our own Kuchinoshima Olympics for floor gymnastics. Our students have been working hard to learn different gymnastic skills, and today they presented performances they made themselves. Unlike normal class, today our students performed with an audience. The elementary school students showed their gymnastics techniques one by one beautifully, and the middle school students showed off their gymnastics skills by doing difficult tricks like a backwards roll into a hand stand. This teaching units is perfect for our small school, where we have joint P.E. classes with our elementary and middle school students.

　土曜日にもちつき大会がありました。地域の方を講師として招いて参加して頂きました。また，山海留学生の見学もあわせて行いました。新型コロナウイルス対策に十分配慮した形で，２班に分かれて作業を行いました。初めてもちつきをする児童生徒もいたようで，貴重な経験になったのではないでしょうか。

　２０２０年もあっという間に残り１ヶ月となりました。良い年越しができるように，残り数日ですが，楽しく過ごしていきましょう。

Last Saturday we had our school's mochi making event. We invited a few of the villagers, and they came and helped us as mochi making instructors. A few study-abroad students came to visit our school, and they also took part in the mochi making. We took careful Covid-19 spread prevention precautions, and split the work into two groups. Some of our students pounded mochi for the first time at the event, becoming a very precious experience for them.

2020 has flown by, and with less than a month left to go, we hope to enjoy the remining days, and get ready to welcome in the new year.

今日の５時間目に，明日のもちつき大会に向けて米とぎをしました。明日は，学校で取れた餅米と，提供してくださったのを合わせ３０kg以上を使用する予定です。このもちつき大会のために，島内外からたくさんの方々からのご協力を頂いています。感謝の気持ちを持って，思い出に残るもちつき大会にしましょう。

　今日は，保護者の方を給食の時間に招いて「ふれあい給食」を実施しました。本校では，昨年度から新型コロナウイルス対策のため，クラスを分けて給食を食べています。児童生徒もいつもとは違った雰囲気の中での給食の時間を楽しんでいました。保護者の方も，久しぶりの学校給食を楽しんでいただけたようでした。

　昨日，中学生は職場体験に参加しました。２人の生徒はくちっこ園で，１人の生徒は郵便局で，１人の生徒は民宿で職場体験をしました。くちっこ園で生徒はこどもにクリスマスツリーを飾ることを手伝ったり，園のスタッフの手伝いをしました。郵便局で生徒はお客様にあいさつをしたり，お金の管理について学んだり，ハガキの対応などをしました。民宿で生徒は，お客様の部屋の掃除に取り組んでいました。生徒にとっては，様々な仕事について学ぶとてもいい機会になりました。くちっこ園，郵便局，そして民宿に、それぞれの職場で生徒に，職場体験をさせていただいたことへ感謝申し上げます。

Yesterday, all our middle school students participated in work experience programs. Two of our students worked at the island's preschool, one worked at the post office, and the other worked at one of the inns on the island. At the preschool, our students helped the preschoolers decorate paper Christmas trees, and helped the staff care for the kids. At the post office, our student greeted the guests, learned about the banking aspect, and answered questions about postcards. At the island's inn, our student helped with the cleaning of the guest rooms. This was a great opportunity for our students to learn about different jobs. We would like to thank the preschool, the post office, and the inn for letting our students participate in a work experience program at their locations.

　今日は，本校に小学６年生のNさんが学校見学に来てくれました。４時間目には５・６年生教室に行って，一緒に授業に参加をしました。給食も一緒に食べましたが，すごく美味しいと喜んでくれました。本校の給食は，自校式で毎日美味しい給食を用意してくれます。

Today a sixth grader, student N, came to visit, and check out our school. During fourth period, they joined the fifth and sixth graders' class. After that, they also ate lunch with the elementary school students. We were happy to see them enjoy our school lunch. Our delicious school lunches are prepared here at our school every day.

　昼休みには，体育館で「エイサー」を披露した後，校庭に行き「戦争」という２チームに分かれての対戦型の鬼ごっこを楽しみました。最初はお互いに緊張していた様子でしたが，時間が経つとともに少しずつ距離も縮まってきたように感じました。

During recess, our students gave our guests an Eisa performance, and then they enjoyed a game of team tag with the visiting student. Student N was nervous at first, but as the day went on, they came out of their shell, and enjoyed their visit.

　「いつごろできるのかな？」「どんな風になるのかな？」最近，児童生徒からはこんな言葉が聞かれます。みんなが何について話をしているかというと，現在建設中の売店とガソリンスタンドです。口之島にはもともと売店が１つあります。今回移転という形で新しい売店を建設中です。ガソリンスタンドは今までありませんでした。みんなオープンセールを楽しみにしているようです。

"When will it be finished?" "What will it be like?" Recently our students have been asking these questions. What they are referring to are the island's new store and gas station, which are under construction at the moment. Here on Kuchinoshima we have a general store as it is. But after the construction finishes, our current store will transfer over to the new building. As for a gas station, this will be the island's first one. Everyone is excited for the opening of both, and perhaps secreting hoping for a grand opening sale.

　昨日は，新１年生の入学説明会が行われました。来年１年生になるＴ君が，４時間目に３・４年生と交流をしました。みんなでしおりに色を塗ったり，オリジナルのすごろくで遊んだりと，とても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。

　Ｔ君が４月から希望をもって小学校生活を送ることができるよう，小・中学校の先輩たちが応援しています。

Yesterday, our school held an orientation for incoming first graders. One of our preschoolers, who is becoming a first grader next year, came to our school during fourth period to interact with the third and fourth graders. They were all able to have a good time painting on bookmarks, and playing a custom game of sugoroku.

All of our students are cheering for our preschooler to have a wonderful elementary school life, filled with hope and aspiration!

　今日の４時間目に,５・６年生の道徳の時間で「スポーツの力」について学習をしました。事前にワークシート等で学習を行い,今日は実際にアスリートに話を聞いてみようということで,今話題のオンラインで,スペシャルゲストに登場してもらいました。

　某大学のレスリング部の部長,男子レスリング日本代表監督松本慎吾先生に出演してもらいました。自身が出場した２回のオリンピックの話や,東京オリンピックについての話をして頂きました。その中でも,緊張についての話をして頂いた際には,「誰しも緊張はする。そこに逃げずに立ち向かうことが大切だ。」という言葉が印象的でした。

　また,サプライズゲストとしてリオデジャネイロ大会の銀メダリストで東京オリンピック代表候補の樋口黎選手が出演してくれました。樋口選手からは,一番大切にしていることとして「感謝」という言葉をもらいました。「どんなにいい成績を残しても周りから愛されない選手では意味がない。」と熱いメッセージを伝えてもらいました。

　最後に２人に,東京オリンピックの目標を聞くと「金メダルしか見ていない。」と力強い言葉を聞くことができました。そして金メダルを獲得した際には,見せてくれると約束をしてくれました。

　今日の時間は非常に貴重な時間になりました。東京オリンピックで金メダルを獲得できるように本校一同応援しています。本当にありがとうございました。

Today during their 4th period, the 5th and 6th graders learned about the power of sports in their moral education class. For today's class they were able to hear stories from two professional athletes. The first was Shingo Matsumoto, the coach of the Japanese wrestling Olympic team. He talked to our students about his two Olympic appearances, and the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. When nervousness in sports came up, he said "Everyone experiences nervousness. What's important is to not run away, and face the nerves." Then came a surprise guest: Rei Higuchi, a wrestler who took silver in the 2016 Olympics, and is a candidate for the 2021 Japanese national team. He talked about the importance of gratitude. "No matter how good the results are, it is meaningless if you are not loved by those around you." Lastly, our students asked about their Tokyo 2021 goals, "We only see gold." Rei also promised to show us the medal in the case that he won.

Today's class was an incredibly precious opportunity for our students. We are all rooting for the Japanese wrestling team to win gold in the Tokyo Olympics. Thank you very much for talking to our students today.

今日の朝は,全校朝会がありました。全校朝会では,学校新聞コンクールの表彰がありました。今回は,一席という素晴らしい賞を頂くことができました。部長の中学部Yさんは,「来年もみんなで一席を取ろう。」という力強い言葉を仲間たちにかけてくれました。来年もう一度目標を達成できるようにこれからもみんなでより良い新聞作りをしていきたいと思います。

Today in the morning, we had a school assembly. First came an award ceremony. Our students' newspaper club had taken first place in a prefecture-wide contest. After receiving the award, the newspaper club president, student Y, spoke powerful words to her fellow students, "Let's take first place again next year!" We hope that our students come together, and work hard so that they can achieve their goal of taking first place again next year.

　また今回賞を頂けたのは今年だけの活動の評価ではなく,昨年度からの新聞作りに対する評価です。昨年度関わってくださった先生方,児童生徒も受賞者の仲間であることを,忘れてはいけないと思います。

Our students received this award, not just for the work they have done this year, but continuing the hard work that had been done last year as well. We must not forget about the teachers and students who also have contributed to the success of our newspaper. This award goes out to you all as well!

今日の２・３校時は,マラソン大会がありました。今日のために,朝の活動や体育の授業を通してたくさんの練習をしてきました。それぞれ本番前に自分の目標記録を設定して大会に臨みました。まずはくちっこ園と３・４年生の部を行いました。園児は１ｋｍ,児童は２ｋｍ走りました。練習の成果を十分に発揮していました。次に高学年・中学生の部を行いました。３ｋｍと４ｋｍを走りました。沿道の声援を力に変えて最後まで全員が走りきることができました。今年度からは「ピタリ賞」「フラット賞」といった賞作りました。全員が,今持てる力を出し切り思い出に残る大会になったと思います。

　地域の方々も児童生徒のために沿道でたくさんの声援を送ってくださいました。たくさんの御協力ありがとうございました。

Today, during second and third period, we had our school's marathon event. Our students have been practicing a lot for this event. They each set goal times this morning before the run, and tackled the race with that time in mind. We had two separate races today. The first one was for the preschooler, and third and fourth graders. For the second race, the fifth and sixth graders, and the middle school students ran. On top of the stamina our students have all built up, they received power from the cheers of those that came out to support them. Both races were spectacular sights; our students showed everyone what they are made of, and displayed the results of all their hard work.

We would like to thank everyone who came out today to cheer our students on, as well as those who took extra precaution when they were driving through the course.
