口之島小中学校では、少年団として空手を行っています。地域の方Ｙさんに指導して頂いています。冬は、足の裏が冷たく、声も小さくなりがちです。最後に、「自分のために空手をして、強くなりなさい。」とＹさんから話をして頂きました。小学２年生から中学１年生まで、年齢の違う子どもたちが一緒に活動します。下級生が上級生に教える姿が見られることもあります。教わることで学ぶだけでなく、教えることで学ぶこともあります。自分のための力に変えていってほしいです。

The English Club of the school promotes learning English through various activities outside the usual English class. These activities involve play and games that enhance English learning actively. Last january 25, 2023, the two first graders of Kuchinoshima Middle School enjoyed learning English during their English Club through a board game called "Snakes and Ladders". With this game, they were able to learn the basic and the most used English terms while playing. These basic terms include days of the week, months of the year, basic action words, numbers, etc.
After playing the board game, they used their tablets for an online game that enhances their vocabulary on food, animals, places, and events. With these game, they unknowingly learned the different English terms while playing. With this game, they have to reach the goal in a limited time so they need to do their best in memorizing the English terms. These terms are backed up with pictures so they can understand the meaning of the words. Through this, their vocabulary will increase.
The two students enjoyed the English Club activities and they are excited to have another English Club time.
It is always better to be prepared before a calamity. An emergency drill was conducted in Kuchinoshima in preparation for calamities like earthquakes and tsunamis. Students and teachers of Kuchinoshima Elementary and Middle School actively participated in the drill. The students and teachers gathered at the school ground and were told on the important things to do before, during, and after a disaster. As indicated in the protocol of the drill, all the residents proceeded to the centerpoint, the Community Center.
今月のトカラ集会は、口之島小中学校が担当でした。中学１年生のＫさんの司会のもと、口之島に関わるクイズを出題しました。口之島の港の玄関口にある壁画に関するクイズや口之島の伝統行事の狂言についてのクイズを出しました。難しかったようで，全問正解の小中学校はいませんでした。しかし、感想の発表で「楽しかった。」という声が聞こえてよかったです。
今日は，薬剤師の先生が来校されました。小学２・３年生は，感染症予防について学習しました。自分でできる予防策として，手洗いの仕方について教えていただきました。小学５・６年生は，清潔・衛生面について学習しました。身の周りを常に清潔に保つことで，風邪やウイルスから体を守ることができることを教えていただきました。中学生は，薬物乱用防止教室について学習しました。違法薬物や依存性の恐ろしさについて話をしていただきました。とても貴重な学習になりました。
あけましておめでとうございます。2023年が始まりました。そして、3学期もスタートです。
昨日、3学期の始業式が行われました。3学期は学年の締めくくりの学期です。中学１年生のＫさんは、「一日一日を大切にして、勉強に部活動に励みたいです。」と決意を述べました。小５年生のＡさんは、「小学６年生との思い出をつくりたいです。」と、卒業生への思いを述べていました。３学期は、あっという間に過ぎていきます。二人の代表の児童生徒が決意したように、これから行動し、それぞれの子どもたちが学年の締めくくりができるといいですね。
