今日は１学期の終業式でした。２人の小学生が１学期でできたことについて発表してくれました。そして校長先生には１学期の反省と夏休み中に気をつけることについての話をしていただきました。

Today we had our closing ceremony for the first semester. At the ceremony, two of our students gave speeches about what they were able to accomplish in the first semester. Then our principle talked to our students about the first semester, and how our students should try to spend their summer vacations.

小学４年生のKさんの誕生日は夏休み中なので，今日は誕生日給食を行いました。食べる前に児童生徒が書いたメッセージカードをプレゼントしました。Kさんは１学期に一生懸命一輪車を練習していて，とても上手に乗れるようになりました。これからの更なる活躍が楽しみです。改めて誕生日おめでとうございます。

Our fourth grader's birthday is during summer vacation, so we celebrated it today during lunch. Before eating, they were given a birthday card with messages from all the students. Our birthday student has been practicing riding a unicycle a lot this semester, and they have gotten really good at it! We are excited to see what they accomplish in this new chapter in their life.

今日は稲刈りを行いました。残念なことに、迫っている台風によって、早く島を出た児童生徒もいたので、今日は少ない人数で稲刈りをしました。それにしても、とても早く稲を切って、集めることができました。終わってから、学校の体育館まで運んで、そこで干しました。もうすぐ脱穀活動が始まります。みんな今日の採った稲を使って、１２月に餅を作る行事を楽しみしています。

Today we had our rice harvesting event. Unfortunately, due to the incoming typhoon, some of our students had to leave the island early. Nevertheless, even with our smaller group of people, we cut and tied up the rice really quickly. After we cut and gathered all the rice, we took it to the school gym, and put it out to dry. Soon it will be ready for threshing. We are looking forward to making mochi at the end of the year with all the rice we harvested today.

昨日小５・６年生は,は中之島と外国語の授業をテレビ会議で行いました。今回のめあては、「英語で他己紹介しよう！」でした。まずみんなでビートルズの曲を歌いました。そして「私はだれでしょう」クイズは行いました。英語のヒントがわかって、正しく答えられた児童がたくさんいました。それから他己紹介の活動に入りました。みんなとても上手に友だちや家族を英語で紹介できました。最後に中之島の児童は英語絵本の読み聞かせを行いました。上手に英語が読まれて、ジェスチャーもあったので、とても素敵な発表になりました。本校の児童はとても楽しそうに聞きました。今回の授業でみんな楽しそうに英語の活動に取り組んでいました。

Yesterday our fifth and sixth graders had English class with the students on Nakanoshima via the TV conference system. To start it off, we sang songs by the Beatles. Then they all played a three-hint quiz. Many of the students could understand the hints, and guess correctly. Then we moved on to the introduction activity. For this, the students picked either a friend or family member, and introduced them in English. All the students gave wonderful presentations. After that, the students on Nakanoshima read and acted out an English picture book. Our students really enjoyed their performance. All the students really seemed to have enjoyed themselves, and we were all happy to see their great English performances.

　今日の３時間目に今学期最後の体育の授業がありました。昨年度はオリンピックについてということで,レスリングの方にオンライン授業をしていただきました。今日はパラリンピック競技を体験しようということで,「シッティングバレー」を行いました。臀部の一部を床についていないといけないということでまずは動き方の練習から行いました。普段とは違った動きが多く最初はみんな苦戦をしていました。そんな中でも５年生のSくんはコツをつかんだようで,誰よりも素早く動き周りを驚かせていました。肝心の試合の様子は,試合に見入ってしまい忘れてしまいました、、、、、。

　まもなく開幕するオリンピック・パラリンピックに向けて貴重な経験ができたのではないでしょうか。

Today our students had their last P.E. class of the semester. Last year a few athletes from the Japanese wrestling Olympic team gave us a lecture online. Today, to give the students the chance to experience some of the Paralympic events, we played sitting volleyball in class. We first practiced moving while sitting down. It was very new to the students, and many struggled. But one of our fifth graders quickly go the hang of things. We forgot what a real matched looked like in all the confusion...

The Olympics and Paralympics are set to start soon, and we hope this experience was valuable to the students.

　昨日行われたカヌー大会の様子です。今年度は当日抽選で各グループ１位が決勝に進出ハンデ無しというルールで行いました。３位は３年生のKくん。２位は6年生のKくん。１位は中学２年のYさんという結果になりました。３人でだけでなく,誰が決勝にいってもおかしくない大接戦の見応えのある大会となりました。今年度も無事故で水泳学習を終えることができよかったと思います。

Yesterday we held our canoe sprint race. First, we put the students in three different racing groups. After a few preliminary rounds, we had our final race. In first place, our third grader, in second, one of our sixth graders, and in first place, our eighth grader. All the matches, both the prelims, and the final race were very exciting. We are glad that we could hold our swimming exhibition, and canoe races safely.

今日の５・６時間目に今年度最後の水泳学習がありました。今年度は漁港での実施が出来なかったため「水泳・カヌー学習発表」を平瀬海水浴場で行いました。今まで練習した平泳ぎやクロールの目標距離を自分で決めて挑戦をしました。

その後はカヌースプリント大会を行いました。抽選でグループ分けをして,決勝まで行いました。結果は見事に中学２年のYさんが優勝しました。

今年度の水泳学習は泳法指導をテーマに行いましたが,発表できれいな泳ぎを全員が見せてくれました。今年度も充実した水泳学習ができたのではないでしょうか。

明日はカヌー大会の写真を公開したいと思います。

Today during fifth and sixth period, we had our last swimming and canoe classes. Today we also we held a swimming exhibition, followed by a canoe race. Each student decided the length of their swim, and what stroke they would display. Then we held the canoe sprint. After many exciting races, our middle schooler, student Y took first place. Our students displayed really nice swimming today, as well as good canoe ability. They took full advantage, and learned so much in the swimming classes this year.

　今日は今学期最後の「トカラ集会」がありました。今回の担当校は平島で,各学年ごとに問題を分けて出してくれました。十島村と各教科を絡めた問題で,児童生徒も盛り上がりながら解くことができました。１学期も残すところ２週間弱です。スッキリとした気持ちで夏休みに入れるように,これからの学校生活を過ごしていきましょう。

Today we had a Tokara Assembly. The island in charge of today's assembly was Tairajima, and they held a quiz game for each grade level. Each question was tailored for what each grade level is learning, so the students were very into them. There are only two weeks left of the first semester. We hope to work hard till the end, and then enjoy our summer vacations.

　今日の５・６時間目に「海釣り大会」がありました。当初は「追い込み漁」を予定していましたが,先日の記録的な大雨の影響で,山が崩れているところもあり今年度は釣り大会の実施となりました。初めてすぐに中学生のYさんが魚を釣り上げました。炎天下の中時間を制限し中での実施ということもあり全員が釣り上げるという目標は達成できませんでしたが,いい思い出を作ることができたのではないでしょうか。

Today during fifth and sixth period, the school held a fishing tourney. We had our drive fishing event scheduled for today, but due to the landslides that were caused by the recent rain, we changed our plans. As soon as the fishing started, one of our middle schoolers caught the first fish of the day. Due to the harsh sunlight, we had to limit the fishing time, and many of our students did reach their goals, but they all seemed to have a great time trying to catch some fish.

　今日の朝の活動で,島民のKさんの育てているタモトユリの観察に行きました。タモトユリを初めて見る児童生徒も多く貴重な時間になりました。また昼には運動会の「結団式」を行いました。運動会に向けて学校全体・チーム一丸となって取り組んでいきたいと思います。

After the morning activity, our students had the chance to see our island's treasured flower: the Tamotoyuri lily, grown by one of our villagers. Many of our students and staff saw the flower for the first time today, becoming a great moment for them. In the afternoon, we had our red/white team formation ceremony. In preparation for this year's Sports Day, we hope our student do their best to come together as teams, and do their best come the big day.

今日の５時間目に中学部のH先生の研究授業がありました。今日は中学１年生の国語「詩の世界」の単元について学習を行いました。詩の表現についての学習を行った後に実際に詩を作ってみようということに挑戦をしました。難しい単元でしたが,「登下校」をテーマにした素敵な作品が出来上がったのではないでしょうか。

Today we had another observation class for teacher H's Japanese class. The theme for the class was poem writing. After reading and reviewing different poem techniques, the student tried writing their own. It was a difficult lesson, but our student worked hard to use the expressions they learned to write a poem.

　今日の昼休み後に「タモトユリタイム」がありました。今日は６月の委員会反省と運動会のスローガン決めを行いました。話し合いの結果今年度の運動会のスローガンは「一致団結～燃えよ紅組・輝け白組　嵐を起こせ口之島～」になりました。今年度も全員で楽しく思い出に残る運動会にしていきたいと思います。

After today's lunch recess, we had a Tamotoyuri meeting. At today's meeting, the student committees first reflected on June's activities. After that, the students voted for this year's slogan for Sports Day. After talking with each other, they decided on this slogan: "Get fired up, red team. Shine brightly, white team. Band together, Kuchinoshima, and take everyone by storm." We hope to create a Sports Day where everyone can make great memories together.

　今日の５時間目に今年度初めての授業参観がありました。小学生は３年生から６年生まで合同で総合を行いました。３・４年生は口之島についての紹介を,５・６年生は先日行われた集合学習についての発表を行いました。中学生は１年生が理科,２年生が英語,３年生が数学の授業を参観していただきました。今年度初めての授業参観ということで緊張している様子も見られましたが,充実した参観になったのではないでしょうか。

Today we held our first open class day of the year during fifth period. During their fifth period, the third and fourth graders introduced Kuchinoshima, while the fifth and sixth graders gave a presentation about their school trip. The seventh graders had science, the eighth graders English, and the ninth graders math. It was the first open class of the year, so students seemed a nervous, but we think it was a successful open class.
