　今日の３校時は、くちっこ園の子どもたちとすごろくをしました。今回は、前日に小学生が作ったすごろくを使いました。ゴリラやペンギンの真似をしたり、変顔をしたりするなどの指示があるマス目があり、少し恥ずかしそうに真似や変顔をしていました。また、ジャンケンに勝ったら、くちっこ園のＹさんが６マス進むなどの面白いマス目もあり、勝負としても盛り上がりました。最後は、風船をたくさん膨らませて、風船で遊びました。

Today during third period, our students played a board game with the pre school students. Some of the squares in the game asked the player to imitate a gorilla or a penguin, or to make a funny face upon landing on them. Our students were a little embarrassed, but played along. After the board game, they inflated, and enjoyed playing with balloons.

　今日の昼休みは、子どもも大人も一緒にバトミントンで対決をしました。声を出し、汗を流し、真剣勝負する姿は子どもも大人も関係なく、楽しそうに活動していました。バトミントンを始めたばかりの児童もいます。何度も空振りながらも、あきらめずにラケットを振って練習をしています。少しずつサーブもできるようになってきました。これからも、他の人のプレーを見ながら、たくさん練習して、上達していってほしいです。

Today the students and teachers enjoyed playing some badminton together. Some of the students have just started playing badminton, and are working hard to improve. We hope they continue to improve by practicing a lot, and watching the play of others.

　今日の２・３時間目にさつまいも植えを行いました。今年度も「紅はるか」と「シルクスイート」の２種類の苗を植えました。くちっこ園も参加しました。口之島で初めてさつまいもの苗植えをする児童生徒も多くいました。植えてから、児童生徒たちは交代で苗に水をやりました。みんなの協力のおかげで，早く植えられて，田んぼの除草もできました。

Today we planted sweet potatoes during second and third period. This year we planted two different kinds of sweet potatoes. The preschool also joined in, and helped us plant the sweet potato seedlings. We had many students who planted sweet potatoes for the first time here on Kuchinoshima. After planting, the students took turns watering the seedlings. Thanks to everyone's help, we were able to finish quickly, giving us time to tend to the rice field.

　２２日(金)から２３日(土)まで１泊２日の日程で「学校キャンプ」が行われました。金曜日の夜に児童生徒はレクリエーションとして，花火と学校探検を楽しみました。学校探検は暗い中で学校校舎を巡り，ボールを探すことをしました。すべてのレクリエーションが終わったら，みんな寝る準備に取り，テントに泊まりました。翌日にテントをしまってから，今年度来た先生と児童生徒のために学校紹介が行われました。まず児童生徒はエイサーを披露して，そして金管バンドが２曲を演奏しました。最後に劇で学校の行事の紹介を行いました。学校紹介が終わったら，学校キャンプの最後としてレクリエーションをしました。

Last weekend from Friday to Saturday, we held our school camping event. On Friday night the students enjoyed some fireworks, followed by a night time school exploration game. The students had to explore the school in the darkness, looking for tokens. After both recreations were finished, the students got ready for bed, and slept in their tents. The following morning, after putting away the tents, we held our school introduction for the new teacher and students. For this, the students performed Eisa, then the brass band played two songs. Then the students put on a play showcasing school events. After that, the students enjoyed a few recreations together to close off the camping event.

昨日、お昼は児童生徒向け、夜は保護者向けに交通安全防犯教室が開催しました。

中之島駐在所の大野さんに来ていただいて、横断歩道の正しいわたり方などを教わりました。子どもたちに、最後に３つの約束事をされました。①車に乗ったらシートベルトをつけよう。②道路では遊ばない。③道路に急に飛び出さない。

自分の大切な命を守るためにも、約束事を守りましょう。

今日は、中学生の理科の授業の様子を紹介します。

中学１年生は、生物の単元を学習しています。花のつくりを調べるために、花を解体しました。花弁がつながったものとつながっていないものがあることに驚いていました。他にも、共通点や相違点を探していきましょう。

中学３年生は、イオンの勉強をしています。その中で、酸性とアルカリ性の性質を確認しました。ＢＴＢ溶液やフェノールフタレイン溶液を加えたときの反応を調べたり、マグネシウムリボンを入れたときの反応を確認しました。また、電圧をかけたときに、電気が流れるか調べました。これから、イオンとの関係を調べていこう。

今日の３時間目に今年度の始めての児童生徒総会がありました。まず議長によってそれぞれの委員会組織の発表はされました。そして児童生徒はみんなで話し合って，スローガンを決めました。今年度のスローガンは「笑顔かがやく口之島　～みんなで築け　希望のかけ橋～」になりました。一緒に協力して，素晴らしい学校を作っていきたいと思います。

Today we held the first student council meeting of the school year. At the meeting, the students voted for the council president. Then the members of each student committee were announced. Lastly, the students decided what this year's slogan would be. After discussing the matter, the students voted and decide on the slogan: "A Kuchinoshima shining with smiles, building a bridge to our hopes together." We hope to work hard together to make this another wonderful school year.

今日の５時間目に今年度の初めての授業参観がありました。小学生は２年生が算数，５・６年生が国語で物語を書きました。中学生は１年生が数学，３年生が英語で現在完了の勉強をしました。初めての授業参観だったので，児童生徒が緊張することもあったかもしれませんが，みんなしっかりと取り組んでいました。

Today we had the first PTA class observation of the school year during fifth period. In the elementary school, the second grader had math, and the fifth and sixth graders wrote stories in Japanese class. In the junior high school, the seventh graders had math, while the ninth grader studied present perfect tense in their English class. Having the parents and guardians come watch them must make them a bit nervous, but it didn't seem to disrupt their concentration during class.

　新学期が始まって，初めての小中別朝会が行われました。小学校・中学校それぞれ分かれて会を行います。小学校では一人ずつ自己紹介をしたあとに，１つずつ質問をしました。緊張した様子で答える姿がありましたがこれからたくさん話をしたり遊んだりして楽しく過ごしていけたらいいなと思います。１年間一緒に過ごす仲間たちと助け合いながら頑張っていきたいですね。

８日に（金）に田植えを行いました。暑い中でしたが，無事に終えることができました。参加した人数の中で，口之島で初めて植えた生徒と職員がいました。田植えするのが珍しい経験なので，この行事は職員と児童生徒にとってとても貴重なことではないかと思います。島民のＳさんにもお手伝いをしていただきしっかり植えることができました。７月に予定されている稲刈りに向けてしっかりと準備を進めていきたいと思います。

On Friday, April eighth, our school had the rice planting event. It was the first time for some of our students and staff to plant rice on Kuchinoshima. Planting rice is an uncommon experience, so we think this event is very valuable to the students and the teachers. With the help of one of the villagers, we could plant the rice well. We will care for the rice, to ensure a great harvest in July.

先週、始業式があり、今週から本格的に授業が始まりました。

中学３年生の理科の授業では、実験を行いました。今日の実験の内容は、「電流が流れる水溶液」です。実験前に、中学３年生のＹさんに質問しました。「水には電流が流れますか？」と質問すると、「電気分解で流れないと学習しました。」と答えました。そして、「電化製品の注意表示の中に、ぬれた手でさわないようにと表示されているのはなぜですか？」と質問すると「汗がとけているから・・・」と答えました。そこで、どんなものが水にとけていたら、電流は流れるのか調べてみる実験を行いました。今日は、さまざまな水溶液に電圧を加えて、電流が流れるかを確認するところで終わりました。次回、どんな水溶液には電流が流れるか考察していくことになります。

久しぶりの実験は、楽しそうでした。

Today, our ninth grader conducted their first science experiement of the school year. We asked them, 'Does water conduct electricity?'. After discussing the topic breifly, they tackled the question by disolving different substances in water, and testing the liquid's conductivity. Our student enjoyed conducting today's experiement very much.
