　最近外国語の授業で，小学５・６年生は「live」と「eat」を使って，動物の生活について表しています。今回の授業で，今まで学んだことを生かして，一緒に食物連鎖についての発表を作りました。動物や順番を決めてから，英文を書きました。そしてとてもいい発表ができました。

Recently in their English class, the fifth and sixth graders have been practicing using the verbs 'live' and 'eat' to talk about animals. For today's class, they used everything they've learned so far, and put together a food chain presentation together. First, they decided the animals, and the speaking order, then they wrote their English sentences. After they finished, they presented their sentences. Good job everyone!!

　今日５時間目に中学生の保健体育の単元で「スポーツの学び方」について学習をしました。普段保健・体育理論の学習は教室で行っていますが,学習内容が戦術や作戦といったキーワードがあったので実際に動きを確認しながら授業を行いました。野球でのランダウンプレーやバスケットのスクリーンなど色んなスポーツの戦術の名前や用途について学習をしました。今日学んだことを今後の学習に活かしていってほしいと思います。

Today during their fifth period health and physical education class, the middle school students learned about sports theory. Normally, sports theory classes are conducted in classrooms, but because today's topics ranged from sports tactics to in-game strategy, we thought it was better to hold the class in the gym and let the students try out different moves. Not only did they learn the names of tactics from sports like basketball, and baseball, but they also got the chance to practice them. We would like them to use what they learned today in the future.

　今日は全校朝会がありました。まず,船便の影響で始業式に参加することができなかった中学２年のSくんが今年の抱負をみんなの前で発表してくれました。「今年はさらに責任感を持って生活していきたい。」と力強い言葉を発表してくれました。

　その後は,ALTのB先生が音楽について話をしてくれました。音楽は,リラックス効果や集中力を高める効果があることなどについて話をしてくれました。

Today we had a school assembly in the morning. First, one of our middle school students, who could not make this semester's opening ceremony due to the boat not running, gave a speech about his goals for this semester. With firm words, he told his fellow students that one of his goals is to take more responsibility as a student, and as a resident of the school's dorm.

After that, the school's ALT gave a presentation about music. According to the presentation, music has the effect of relaxing us, and can increase our ability to concentrate.

今日の２時間目に２年生が,３時間目に３・４年生がくちっこ園に行きました。２年生は,２月に予定している「豆まき」のための鬼のお面作りをしました。初めてくちっこ園の中に入ったので最初は緊張していた様子でしたが,園児のYさんと協力をして楽しく作ることができました。

　３・４年生は,紙芝居の読み聞かせ, いすとりゲーム,お店屋さんごっこなどを行いました。紙芝居は,Yさんが好きな恐竜の話を選び,読む順番を決めたり,ゆっくり読む練習をしたりと自分たちで一生懸命準備をしていました。Yさんがとても喜んでくれ, 嬉しそうな３・４年生でした。これからもくちっこさんとたくさん交流をしていきたいです。

Today, our some of our elementary school students visited the island's preschool. For our second grader's visit, the students made demon masks together for 'Setsubun'. It was the first time our second grader went inside the preschool, so they were a little nervous at first, but with the help of the preschoolers, they were able to enjoy mask making together.

As for the third and fourth graders' visit, they read stories, played musical chairs, and did play pretend shopping with the preschoolers. For the story, one of the preschoolers chose a dinosaur story book, then after deciding the reading order, and they all worked hard to read the story. They were all very happy with the reading. We look forward to our next visits to the preschool!

　今日の５時間目に小中合同音楽がで,卒業式のための合唱練習を行いました。今日はまず一昨年度の合唱を映像でみてから,パートごとに分かれて練習を行いました。今年度は「旅立ちの日に」を3部合唱で行う予定です。

　卒業生を気持ちよく送り出せるように,これからたくさん練習を重ねていきたいと思います。

For today's fifth period, our students had choir practice together for our upcoming graduation ceremony. After watching a recording of the graduation ceremony choir singing from two years ago, our students were divided into three groups based on vocal range, and began practicing their part. For this year's graduation we are planning to sing 'Tabitachi no Hi' in three-part harmony. In order to give an emotion-filled goodbye to our graduates, we hope to practice as much as we can from here on out.

　１９日（火）の夜に３度放送のチャイム音が流れました。

　昔，島津藩が奄美大島を征伐しようとする（黒砂糖を藩の財源にする）とき水案内人として島の人たちを何人か連れっていったそうです。その時全島の水案内人は口之島に集まり，島津藩の船に乗り込みました。

　ところが奄美大島で薩摩藩は残虐極まりなく振る舞い，口封じをしたそうです。そして誰一人帰ってくることはなかったそうです。それから，今でも東の浜から亡くなった方々の魂が帰ってくると言われています。その魂を迎え入れる祭り（７日祭り）でたいそうな料理を用意しているそうです。

　先日３度放送の音が流れたのは，１つ目の２２時に流れたのは，１番鉄砲（昔は火縄銃）２２時半は２番鉄砲，２３時には３番鉄砲といった意味が込められていたそうです。昔は，３番鉄砲が鳴ったら全ての電気を消し，霊が帰るのを静かに見送っていたそうです。

写真のサトウキビは杖代わりとしてあるそうです。テゴはあの世に持って帰る手土産です。各家々で料理を祭り霊をもてなしています。

今日学校のALTはくちっこ園を訪問しました。今回子どもたちは福笑いを楽しみました。ゲームをする前に，ＡＬＴと一緒に顔のパーツの英語の言い方を練習しました。そして交代で顔を作ってみました。とてもおもしろい顔になって，みんな笑っていたので，今年はいい運になるのではないでしょうか。そして卒園に向けて，みんなの力を合わせて，看板を作り始めました。

Today our ALT visited the island's preschool for another English class. For today's visit, the students played Fukuwarai. Before playing, the students practiced saying different parts of the face in English. Then the students took turns making faces. The faces the students put together made everyone laugh, so we are all going to have good luck this year, right? After that, the students began working on the sign for this year's graduation ceremony.

　今日，小学校の２年生庭園で育てていた野菜の収穫をしました。大根やかぶ，ブロッコリーを収穫することができました。今回収穫した物は家に持ち帰り，美味しくいただく予定です。

Today, our second grader picked some vegetables from the school's garden. They were able to harvest some daikon, broccoli and turnips. They are taking the freshly picked vegetables home, and are planning to eat them with their family.

　今日の給食では，島民のSさんが育てた田芋のコロッケがでました。田芋を食べるのが初めての児童生徒もいましたがみんなで美味しくいただきました。ありがとうございました。

For today's lunch, we had croquettes made from field potatoes that one of the villagers grew. There were a few students who had never eaten a field potato before, but they enjoyed the croquettes very much. Thank you very much for the potatoes!

　今日の５時間目の体育で「跳び箱」を行いました。跳び箱のウォームアップでは，サーキットトレーニングを行いました。「閉脚跳び」や「台上前転」に向けた練習を行っています。また３月に予定している「縄跳び大会」の練習も体育の時間や朝活動の時間を活用して行っています。

For today's fifth period P.E. class, our students practiced vault exercises. As a warm-up, our students did a circuit training. They practiced jumping while keeping their legs together, followed by forward summersaults over the vaulting boxes. Aside from the gymnastics practice, our students have also been practicing their jump rope techniques for our school's Jump Rope Competition, which is scheduled for this March.

　今日の３時間目に避難訓練がありました。島の消防団の方々にもご協力していただいて行いました。今回は地震及び火災の避難訓練でした。体育館に避難した後は映像を見て，震災時の正しい行動について学びました。常に今日のような行動ができるように日頃から常に準備をしておきましょう。

For today's third period, our school held an earthquake evacuation drill. After our students practiced evacuating from their classrooms to the school gym, two members from our island's volunteer firefighter department came to talk to our students. They stressed the importance of being prepared for disasters like earthquakes, since they can occur at any time. Then our students learned about the proper actions to take during an earthquake by watching two educational videos. We hope to stay prepared at all times to be able to swiftly evacuate in the event of a natural disaster.

　今日の４時間目にたこあげをしました。くちっこ園のTくんとYちゃんもたこを作り，一緒にたこあげをしました。約１ヶ月ぶりの晴天の中，楽しく活動することができました。３人とも疲れを忘れ，ずっと校庭を楽しそうに走りまわっていました。

For today's second period, our second grader flew kites with the island's preschoolers. All three students had made their own kite for the occasion. It's been gloomy and rainy all month long, but the weather was perfect today. What a lucky break! As if forgetting what being tired was, all three students ran around the schoolyard, flying their kites high.

　今日２年生は生活の時間に，島探検に行きました。１月から口之島に来たので地域の方に名刺を持って，あいさつ回りに行きました。くちっこ園の子どもたちも地域の方に新聞を配布する予定だったので一緒に行くことにしました。「郵便局があるんだ。」や「島にお店は1つしかないんだ。」と新たな発見がたくさんあったようです。

Today, our second grader, during their social studies class, went on an island adventure. Since they just came to our island this January, they went around introducing themselves to the islanders. The island's preschool was also going about, delivering their newsletters, so our second grader tagged along. They were making a lot of discoveries about the island. "So, there's a post office here." "Oh, there is only one store on the island."

　今日小学３・４年生は今年最初の外国語の授業がありました。３学期からは小学３・４年生それぞれ１人増えて，合計は５人になりました。このため，最初に英語での自己紹介を行いました。それから色と果物の英語の言い方を復習して，その語彙を使って，ゲームを行いました。児童は楽しそうに復習とゲームに取り組みました。３学期に残っている外国語の授業を楽しみにしています。

Today the third and fourth grade students had their first English class of the year. This semester we gained two students, bringing the class total to five. So, we started the lesson with short self-introductions in English. Then we reviewed colors and fruits, and played some games using those words. Our students seemed to have really enjoyed today's lesson, especially the new students. We are excited for the rest of the English classes this semester.

　今日は，令和２年度3学期の始業式がありました。３学期からは小学生が４人増え児童生徒全１３名になりました。児童生徒代表あいさつは，小学４年生のMくんと６年生のYさんがしてくれました。Mくんからは目標として「英語でもっとコミュニケーションが取れるようになりたい。」「跳び箱を頑張りたい。」といった目標を発表してくれました。Yさんは３月の卒業に向けて，そして小学部最高学年としての決意を発表してくれました。新たな体制で迎える２０２１年さらに盛り上がっていきましょう。

Today we had our starting ceremony for the third semester. Starting this semester, our elementary school is gaining four students, bringing our school total to thirteen students. Representing the students today, 4^th grader M, and 6^th grader Y gave speeches. Student M talked about their goals for the semester: to be able to communicate more in English, and work on the vaulting horse. Student Y spoke about their determination to work hard as the elementary school student leader, and to finish their last semester as an elementary school student strong. We are very excited for what is in store for us in 2021!

　新年あけましておめでとうございます。２０２１年になりました。今年の干支は「丑」です。口之島といえば野生牛ということで今年は口之島の年と言ってもよいのではないでしょうか。昨日，NHK番組の「ダーウィンが来た！」にも口之島の野生牛が紹介されていました。１０日（日）１１：３０～のBSフジ「ガリレオX」でも野生牛について放送される予定です。ぜひみなさんもご覧ください。

Happy New Year, everyone! It is finally 2021, the year of the ox. When it comes to Kuchinoshima, our wild cows definitely come to mind. So, we can say this is the year of Kuchinoshima, right? Yesterday, on NHK's 'Darwin's here!', an introduction was given on Kuchinoshima's wild cows! Wow! And on January 10, at 11:30 am, a program about our wild cows will also be shown on BS Fuji's Galileo X. Please check it out!
